July 2024 - Targeting Employer Insurance and State Medicare Coverage

The Ketamine Taskforce has launched two new initiatives aimed at expanding insurance coverage for ketamine as a mental health treatment.

The first effort targets large employers directly. We are working to convince companies to guarantee ketamine coverage for mental health through special supplemental insurance programs offered to their employees. This approach allows us to build coverage from the ground up, company by company, creating a model that other employers can follow.

The second initiative focuses on Medicare at the state level. Rather than waiting solely on a national coverage determination, we have begun working locally to pursue state-by-state Medicare coverage for ketamine treatment. This allows us to make progress in individual states while our broader federal efforts continue.

Together, these two approaches reflect our strategy of pursuing access on multiple fronts at once — working with employers who can offer coverage now, and with state Medicare programs that can set precedent for broader national change.
